Mr. B., as he is commonly known, attended a rural school for two years before his parents enrolled him in the Oskaloosa Christian School and later Pella Christian High School.  He received his BA in education from Dordt College and did graduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa, Alta Vista College in Medina, Washington,  Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, and various other colleges and universities in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. His two sons and their families live in California and one of his eleven grandchildren lives and works near him in Korea.

Beginning in 1975 with the fall of Vietnam, Al became personally involved in ministering to many refugees from Southeast Asia. This along with teaching adults in Romania in 1994-1995 have impacted him to commit to living his life according to Christ’s teaching in Matthew 25:31-46. Not because we are saved by our works, but because our works give evidence of our faith.

Al has been greatly influenced by his father’s biblical perspective and by such biblically based thinkers, instructors, pastor, and authors as Dr. Al Greene, Dr. John R. Sittema,  Dr. John Piper,  Dr. James Boice,  Robert Capon,  Gary North,  Ken Ham,  and many others.  Al is an avid reader of theological works and loves teaching and preaching to small groups.
